Tottenham Hotspur supports UEFA Grassroots Day in Poland

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation continues to work with Special Olympics at all levels through a range of partnerships at local, regional  and international levels that form part of Tottenham Hotspur FC's Global Football Ambassador Role.

The team from London was  invited  to support  Special Olympics Poland and The Polish FA at the UEFA Grassroots Day held in Warsaw, Poland on the 19th & 20th May 2010. The main aim of event was not only to encourage young people to play football but also to promote football for people with intellectual disabilities and the 2010 Special Olympics European Games in Warsaw.

The Spurs team participated in an All Star 5- a-side football competition at the main square in Warsaw together  with  some former National Team players , members of the Polish Parliament, Legia Warsaw FC and Special Olympics teams.  All teams were cheered by a number of distinguish guests such as Roman Kosecki (Former player and now a Parliament representative), world class tennis players, Ellis Ferreira (USA), Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski (Poland).  Both of the Polish tennis players are also Ambassadors for the 2010 SO European Games, which will be held in Warsaw on Sept 18-24.

Former club captain Gary Mabbutt and legend Paul Allen  along with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation coaches and English FA tutor conducted a disability football coaching clinic,  with a key focus on how to work with players  with intellectual disabilities. The Disability Football Coaching workshop and master class in Football Coaching with Special Olympics athletes was very well received by attendees at Legia stadium.  The English legends and coaches met also with Physical Education university students and future coaches to talk about professional careers in coaching people with intellectual disabilities. The one hour meeting with students was also an occasion for them  to sign up  as volunteer  for 2010 SO Games, hosted by Academy of Physical Education in September.
