European SO Gymnastic Tournament Reflects Growth of Sport in European Movement

More than 110 female gymnasts from 17 countries took part in the2010 Special Olympics Regional European Gymnastics Tournament in Luxembourg City on May 22-26.

The event was hosted and executed to the highest standard by Special Olympics Luxembourg.

The event received the full backing of the Luxembourg Gymnastics Federation (FLG) including President Roger Negri and Paulo Frising. Thanks to their support and enthusiasm, Mr Georges Guelzec, President of the European Gymnastics Federation (UEG) attended the tournament and took part in a very productive meeting to discuss future partnerships between SOEE and UEG.

The Tournament was officiated by 24 FLG referees as well as six guest referees from other countries all under the leadership of Marie Carroll, TD from Ireland who has given fantastic support to the growth of gymnastics within SOEE.

A Healthy Athlete Programme was run alongside the tournament including Opening Eyes and Health Promotion.

The Gymnastics Tournament received tremendous coverage by the local media and was financially supported by a number of sponsors including: National Lottery, Essilor and Safilo.
